In preparation to my upcoming trip to New York and in celebration for the New Sex and the City movie, I had a few glasses of wine and watched the first movie again, for oh, I don’t know the 67th time?

Still made me cry when Carrie found out Big was not going to show up to their wedding…and still makes me cringe when she gave him a chance after merely running in to him in their perfect upscale loft…But, on the same hand, I would do the same for Big I think…

Here is a trailer for the movie if you haven’t already seen it, it comes out May 27th and I will be anxiously awaiting this day with a count down and hutning for the perfect pair of shoes in honor of SJP! Enjoy!

I purchased almost $100 worth of fruits, veggies, fresh fish,brown rice, and whole grain foods today in exchange for my not-so-healthy diet of pasta, white bread, and snacks. My goal is not to diet but to change my eating habits; 80% raw foods, and all bread/pasta/dough will be whole grain/whole wheat. I am almost tempted to buy a scale and see how much weight I lose just by being a little more health conscious. I tossed my scale in the garbage 2 years ago because I did not want to rely on it to feel good about myself or to beat myself up for gaining a couple pounds.

With this being said, I am not so much concerned with organic or not, sorry but like parabens in skincare/makeup, I just think it is a marketing ploy.

For now, my caffeine will stay…I figure I have got to live a little, right? My red wine also will stay.

And some time this week I plan to pick up some vitamins to boost my healthy eating. I have been reading some various articles about which ones to buy. I am going to get magnesium, fish oil, coenzyme q10, and vitamin c.

Well, here is to turning over a new leaf and starting fresh…:)

The school year is coming to a close and I am wrapping up my final projects and anticipating a few more final exams. Now I will be able to update GlitzyBitch more often. It is so weird having just registered for my final semester of college; then what?

This entry is going to be a lot different from all my previous ones, and for a reason: I want to give a little insight in to who I am, what I believe, and what is important in life to me….

It’s funny to me that so many clients come in to the store and they want to wear exactly what the model in the store ad has on; as if it will somewhat erase 20 years of laugh lines, sun damage, and gray hair so that they again look as they did when they were 20.I think the same happens with celebrities; we all (whether we admit it or not) idolize them in some way or another and want to resemble every inch of their human perfection. However, without a plastic surgeon on hand, a personal chef, 3 hours to spare a day to train, a ridiculously large disposable income, and a stylist…this is just setting yourself up to fail. Which is why I tell a majority of my clients, “You are too hard on yourself”.

And we all are. So relax. You will never look like these human Barbie and Ken dolls. Chances are you will never rake in $5 million a year to afford the lifestyles celebrities lead, so we should stop emulating them and pretending we are something we are not. I find that maybe my blog is a little materialistic (then again so am I at times), but I have to admit I see beauty in the unexpected and in the mundane: Laugh lines (a reminder of all the moments in life that made you smile), a streak of gray in the hair (signifies wisdom and hey Stacey from What Not to Wear pulls it off with such grace), a mole (or a beauty mark…is the glass half empty or half full…it depends how you look at it), freckles (angel’s kisses).

So really, let’s just be who we are. We are each our own worst critics.
Here is my manifesto:
1. Buy makeup because you like the self expression and the option of doing so
2. Wear outfits because you feel good in them, instead of being disappointed you didn’t by some miracle transform in to the mode wearing the same jeans in the ad (she was photshopped anyways)
3. Take care of your body and your face; your makeup is only as good as the skin underneath
4. Take a bubble bath everyday
5. Wear lingerie to bed just cuz
6. Music is my religion
7. Do what you love and fuck everything else (Okay I stole that one from Little Miss Sunshine)
8. Put 110% in to everything you do, doing a half-assed job is never good enough
9. Don’t compare yourself to other people because the grass is always greener on the other side and they are probably thinking the same things about you
10. Have faith even when it seems like there is no hope left

You either love it or despise it, and this usually depends on the year and your relationship status at the moment. If you are single, you are miserable seeing all the flowers and candy that adorn the window displays and shelves at every store. Or if you are in a relationship you can’t wait for that one day a year when your boyfriend/husband/significant other is forced to be romantic and shower you with affection for the entire day. I love Valentine’s Day as you probably already imagined. I bought some pretty little romantic things from Victoria’s Secret and now I need to find the perfect outfit. Below are some ideas:

My Opinion on Parabens

Parabens are an extremely controversial ingredient used in most skin care/hair care/ shaving creams/makeup products as a cheap and readily accessible preservative to keep products fresh (free of mold and other bacteria) and extend the shelf life. It is thought (by some) to have estrogenic effects that can lead to cancer when exposed to the ingredients for long periods of time. You can look on the back of your products and locate which items contain parabens; they are called methylparaben, butylparaben, isoparaben, or propylparaben.

Although “going paraben free” is cerainly a preference, as a marketing/PR student and a make-up artist I think this is a big joke to get people to spend more money on more costly products that have a shorter lifespan, bringing the consumer in more frequently to purchase more expensive products which are by no means any better than the ones containing parabens. Which in fact, have been around for 50 years and are a NATURALLY derived ingredient deemed safe by the CTFA (cosmetic, toiletry, and fragrance association). However, certain companies (in my opinion) have created a huge marketing niche by targeting consumers who think they are doing the smart thing by spending more money for “safer” ingredients; when in fact what some brands should do instead is some clever PR about why their use of parabens are safe for consumers.

However, some of my favorite cosmetics companies are paraben free. These companies include (but are not limited to): Lorac, Smashbox, Burt’s Bee’s, Tarte, Stila, and Too Faced.

Lately, I have been feeling a bit “duped” by the cosmetic industry as I start to research the products that are sold for $50 in comparison to comparable products at a drugstore for $5 and find virtually all of the same ingredients and the same results. I think we trust brands and we assume that if something comes with a steep price tag it must be the best; top of the line; creme de la creme. Not so.

In fact, I would like to update you that everyday I get compliments on my lashes. And it is just my little secret that I am not wearing the $30 mascara, but instead I am wearing the $5.99 Loreal Voluminous.

Tattoos

I am a sucker for tattoos and piercings; I know some people may find them tacky or “just a fad”. But obviously they are not a passing trend, since pretty much everyone you know these days has some kind of tattoo and/or piercing. I personally have 3 and don’t regret it at all; they are just a part of who I am now. Love them or hate them I just wanted to say Kat Von D from Miami Ink/LA Ink is so glamorous but rocker chic with all her tattoos and I envy someone as bold and talented as her. Anddd she has a fantastic makeup line…and her tattoo concealer is the best I have used to conceal tattoos (and hickeys…not for myself, but for clients)

Shoes

Oddly enough, I have never been much of a shoe girl. I rarely covet a gorgeous pair of Louboutins…I don’t dream about the patent leather platform Marc Jacobs, and I never splurge on a sparkly pair of Kate Spades for the holdays. This year I want to change that…now I am by no means going to turn in to Carrie Bradshaw and have no plans to purchase ridiculously expensive shoes (I am still in college, people!), but I am planning on making some minor investments in shoes nevertheless to make up for all of these years I have neglected to do so. Some minor changes that won’t make me gasp when I check my bank account..
So next on my to-do list (in between finding a perfect forever glam job in the business world after college, acing all my mid terms and finals, rocking it out at my summer internship, and everything else I need to do in the next year) is finding a really organizationally savvy way to display my shoes in my closet and then, of course, to go out and buy some really fabulous new ones!
Here are some ideas I have for the Spring months ahead (after all this snow stops me from wearing anything but my worn out pair of Uggs or a sloshed up pair of converse’s):

Cute and patterned rainboots for those days I spend tip toing between rain puddles on my way to class, this pair is from Target $29.99
